CAPS buffer is a weak acid with a CAS number of 1135-40-6. In aqueous solution, CAPS partially dissociates to form hydrogen ions (H+) and anions (A-). Its buffering capacity mainly depends on the ratio of CAPS molecules to their anions in the solution. In protein electrophoresis, CAPS buffer solution is often used as the electrode buffer for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Its high pH value is conducive to the separation and resolution of proteins. At this time, the concentration and pH of the buffer solution need to be optimized according to the protein sample and electrophoresis conditions. CAPS buffer solution also has applications in maintaining the stability of biomolecules, such as maintaining enzyme activity and nucleic acid stability.
